Subsidies for flat renovation in Prague: what exists and what does not
Right from the start: no one will contribute towards a new bathroom, kitchen or moving a partition wall. Grant schemes cover energy savings, not better living conditions. There are a few areas where this overlaps with renovation, but they do exist.
The most common question during the survey is whether subsidies can be claimed for renovation. The answer in Prague apartments is almost always no: the programmes target owners of detached houses or entire apartment buildings as a whole, i.e. The building's owners' association (SVJ), not individual flat owners.
At the same time, a fundamental change has occurred over the past year: the sub-programme "Repair Your House After Grandma", which had been discussed for two years, stopped accepting applications in November 2025 and will not continue in any new form. If anyone offers it to you in 2026, they are working with outdated information.
When a subsidy for air conditioning is available and when it is not
There is no subsidy for air conditioning units designed solely for cooling. Subsidies are available for air-to-air heat pumps, i.e., air conditioners with a heating function used for space heating.
Installation must be carried out by a company authorised to handle regulated substances (F-gases) in accordance with Act No. 73/2012 Coll. - otherwise the subsidy will not be granted even if all other conditions are met.

Where renovation with a subsidy actually meets reality
First area of support: heating. If you replace your heat source as part of a renovation and install a heat pump, including an air conditioner with a heating function, Prague will contribute up to 60 000 Kč, but no more than half of the documented costs. Cooling alone does not receive any support.
Second breakthrough: the whole building. Green roofs, rainwater storage tanks and heat pumps for residential buildings are supported in Prague's programme with amounts an individual could never receive, for a green roof and a building heat pump, the cap is 400 000 Kč. The applicant must be the building's owners' association or a housing cooperative, not you as an individual unit owner.
The third point to be fair about: subsidies are paid out after the work is completed and upon presentation of supporting documents. Therefore, you cannot rely on them for the renovation's cash flow: expect to pay everything upfront.
What we provide with the application

Frequently asked questions about grants
Will I receive a subsidy for renovating my bathroom or kitchen?
No. None of the current programmes support layout changes, tiling, kitchens or sanitary ware. They do support energy savings, insulation, heat sources, ventilation with heat recovery, photovoltaics and rainwater management.
I heard about the Repair Your Grandmother's House programme. Can I use it?
No. The submission of applications ended on 10 November 2025 due to the exhaustion of funds, and in the new concept, the Nová zelená úsporám programme does not continue in the form of direct grants. An interest-free loan for standard households and a direct grant for vulnerable households in detached houses remain available.
Can the building's owners' association obtain any benefits during a house renovation?
Yes, and these are the highest amounts in the tables below: up to 400 000 Kč from the Prague programme for a heat pump for a residential building or a green roof. The decision is made by the owners' meeting; grants are paid after implementation and must not exceed half of the eligible costs.
Can I get a subsidy for an air conditioner that only cools?
No. There is no subsidy for air conditioning intended solely for cooling. Subsidies are available for air-to-air heat pumps, i.e., air conditioners with a heating function used for space heating. If you are purchasing the unit purely for summer cooling, it does not qualify for subsidy programmes.
Must installation be carried out by a company with F-gas certification?
Installation must be carried out by a company authorised to handle regulated substances (F-gases) in accordance with Act No. 73/2012 Coll. - otherwise the subsidy will not be granted even if all other conditions are met.
Do you guarantee that I will receive the subsidy?
The programme provider alone decides on the grant award. We do not guarantee its approval; we assist with technical documentation and installation certificates.
